••• Die Rubrik „Ausser der Reihe“ wächst über Gebühr. Das soll so nicht bleiben. Eine Anmerkung ganz ausser der Reihe will ich heute aber doch noch machen.
Dieses Blog wird angetrieben durch WordPress und viele nützliche, frei verfügbare Plugins. Zwei davon, die ich sehr schätze, sind SimpleTagging und der Google Sitemap Generator. Ich habe ein kleines WordPress Plugin geschrieben, dass diese beiden Plugins verknüpft und die Tag-Seiten, die von SimpleTagging erzeugt werden, der Google Sitemap hinzufügt.
Bei Gelegenheit sollte das Plugin SitemapTags direkt die Konfiguration von SimpleTagging auslesen. Im Moment sind die beiden Konfigurationsoptionen noch direkt im PHP-Code einzusetzen. Wer das Plugin ausprobieren möchte, findet es hier. Anregungen für Verbesserungen nehme ich gern entgegen.

Update 05.03.2007: SitemapTags is a WordPress 2.1.x plugin. It requires SimpleTagging and Google Sitemap Generator and adds all your tag URLs created by SimpleTagging to your Google Sitemap. The plugin has been updated to version 0.9.1. It now uses the SimpleTagging configuration. No further configuration should be necessary. Just upload, activate, enjoy.
Update 30.08.2007: SitemapTags has been updated to version 1.0.2. It can now also be used with WordPress 2.3 Beta as well as WordPress 2.1.x and 2.2.x. Whenever the plugin detects the presence of SimpleTagging it will use it. If SimpleTagging cannot be found and SitemapTags detects a WordPress version higher or equal 2.3-beta1 it will use the WordPress tagging configuration. Even in this case the plugin Google Sitemap Generator is still required. As before there is no need to edit the plugin source, and you don’t have to configure any options. Just install, activate and enjoy!

Erstmal danke für das nützliche Plugin. Eine Sache ist mir aufgefallen, die ich dann manuell korrigiert habe: SimpleTagging erzeugt Urls mit / am Ende, in der Sitemap wurden Url ohne / erzeugt – Bug oder Feature? :)

Ob die von SimpleTagging generierten URLs mit Slash enden oder nicht, ist eine Konfigurationsoption von SimpleTagging. Man kann sie über die Konfigurationsseite von SimpleTagging an- bzw. abschalten. Im Moment muss man dies im SitemapTags tatsächlich von Hand korrekt passend zur eigenen Konfiguration eintragen. Ich überlege, ob ich den SimpleTagging-Autor kontaktieren sollte. Vielleicht nimmt er das Snippet einfach in das nächste Release von SimpleTagging auf. Das wäre am besten.

SitemapTags wurde aktualisiert auf Version 0.9.1. Es verwendet jetzt die SimpleTagging-Konfiguration. Eine Konfiguration des Plugin ist daher nun nicht mehr nötig. Einfach hochladen, aktivieren, und los gehts.

@Simon: Meanwhile I´m using WordPress 2.2 and the Sitemap Beta 3.0 together with SitemapTags. I´m not sure whether I skipped WP 2.1.3. though.
Please check your SimpleTagging configuration. You have to specify whether your tag URLs should end with slashes or not. Also make sure that you have tagged something so that there is an existing tag URL to report in the site map.
In fact SitemapTags is a very simple plugin. Unless the developers of either SimpleTagging or Sitemap change their general design it should work. I´ll make sure to test and – if necessary – upgrade the plugin when new versions of the base plugins are released.

If you experience problems please be more specific when reporting them.
I have just successfully tested SitemapTags in this configuration (which should be as recent as possible):
• WordPress 2.2.2
• SimpleTagging 1.6.8.1
• Google XML Sitemaps 3.0b8

Why do you think it’s not working? What exactly is not working? You don’t have to insert any code anywhere. The plugin just adds your tag pages to the sitemap. The only way to check this is to examine the sitemap file. I have just checked your sites sitemap. Everything appears to be perfect. The tag pages are included.
As stated above I highly recommend upgrading WordPress to version 2.2.2 anyway. You could also use Google XML Sitemaps 3.0b8 which is very stable.

A little fix is needed for version 1.0.2 for wordpress 2.3 part.
change
$query = „SELECT a.slug, b.taxonomy FROM wp_terms a, wp_term_taxonomy b „;
to
$query = „SELECT a.slug, b.taxonomy FROM $wpdb->terms a, $wpdb->term_taxonomy b „;
to avoid hardcoding the table names.

@Sky: This is a good idea for my other plugins as well. However, I have doubts that this plugin is of any use by now since the new versions of Simple Tags and the Google Sitemap Generator do what’s needed…

Hi,
mein Problem ist, dass das Plugin seit dem Wechsel auf „Simple Tags“ und WP 2.3 noch die „alten“ Tags in die Sitemap submitted (Simple Tags hat viele Tags umgeschrieben, z.B. Unterstriche eingefügt, /Tag/ eingefügt, usw.).
Jetzt hab ich in meiner Sitemap 233 nicht existente Links in der Sitemap und meine Google-Traffic fällt um 50 %.
Gibts ne Lösung?

Die Lösung ist, SitemapTags zu deinstallieren. Der aktuelle Google Sitemap Generator für WordPress 2.3.x hat nun eine Option, die WordPress-Tags in die Sitemap zu übernehmen. Simple Tags verwendet die Standard-Tabellen von WordPress für die Tags. SitemapTags ist damit obsolet geworden.

Danke für das Plugin! Musste ganz schön lange rumsuchen und rumprobieren bis ich endlich fündig geworden bin. Was ich jetzt allgemein zum Anlaß nutzen möchte bei all den wunderbaren WP plugins gibt es ein gemeinsames Problemchen: „Das Finden“ – „Die Beschreibung“. Das wars auch schon. Danke!
